I would love to be the teacher of a group of Kindergartners. I have
always love little children, and I hope to have a classroom like my
sketch one day.
When beginning my teaching career I am aware that I will not always get the grade, nor the room that I would like. Knowing this, I would like to use the space in my future classroom wisely so that I can add many activities for my children. I would really like to see many hands-on activities in my classroom to inspire young brains to interact with materials and other students. I feel that these activities will not only help their educational skills, but also social skills.

When students, parents, and administration walk into my room I want them to feel as if they are walking into open space. I don't want to have them feel over crowed by objects, but I do want to provide many learning centers for my students. With placing my centers around the rooms wall I feel it really opens the center of the room for group learning.

In the middle of my classroom, in front of the Smart Board and my desk, I would like to have students in groups of 4 or 5. Students will be able to work in groups at times, and I feel this will be a great way to keep students in their seats while they are working as pairs. I am aware that this may become more of a distraction than a help to students, so I may have to some arranging at times.

When designing my reading center I want to have a variety of books that are separated into categories for students to view. The reading center will be a quiet area for students to go to for reading time. During this time students will be provided with bean bag chairs and other children sized chairs, along with pillows for students to seat on. I would like to keep the reading group by the door because it is one of the quieter centers, and this can keep us from disturbing anyone in the hall or other close classrooms.

Next to the reading I want to place my computer group. I like the idea of keeping the computers near the reading group because of the noise level. With the reading area and computer area both being quiet centers this can really help students concentrate.

As you can see in the bottom left corner of my classroom I will have some living plants. I want to have students help me plant a few plants at the beginning of the school year and let them watch as they grow. During the year students will take turns taking care of the plants and making sure they are watered and have plenty of sunlight. These plants will also be included in science lessons as we begin talking about other living things.

In the front of the room, under the Smart Board, I will place my Morning Meeting Rug. Every morning students will come set on their assigned spot and get into "SHINE."

Once students are in "SHINE" we will do our morning review on the Smart Board and then go over the calender and the number of days we have been in school so far that year.

On the right side of my room I want to have a science center/ hands-on center. I would like this center to be placed by my desk to allow me to keep certain materials in my desk, or locked in a cabinet until needed. I really like the idea of having this center to get the students involved. Many learners learn by doing hands-on activities, and with students so young they really want to get involved in experiment.

In the back of my room I want to have my listening center. During this center I will have students gather around the table and group read with them. I will also use this table at times for one-on-one tutoring for a student, or for giving a couple of students at a time help on an assignment. This center will have basket chairs for the students to set on, and in the baskets I will store pencils, markers, spare paper, and etc. for students to use while at the center.

Many elementary classrooms to provide classroom bathrooms and water fountains and if my classroom does have these I would like to hang signs to remind children to always flush and wash hands after.
As much as I would really like to have bathrooms, sinks, and water fountains in my room I am aware that I might not get these options.
